Taxonomic note
According to Hanagata et al. (1998: 223), various authors have adopted Palmellococcus to accommodate Chlorella-like algae but they note that the only information about the type species, other than Kützing's original description, was provided by Nageli (1849), to whom Braun had sent a dried specimen - (10 March 2011) - G.M. Guiry
