Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Achnanthes is Achnanthes adnata Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Achnanthidium pyrenaicum (Hustedt) H.Kobayasi.

Type Information
Type locality: Gave d'Ossau River, Pyrenees, France; (Potapova & Ponader 2004: 44, 45, fig. 50) Type (fide Simonsen, 1987: 248-249): BRM; Coll. Hustedt 397/18 (INA 1996) Notes: River Gave d'Ossau and in the vicinity of a spring at Lac d'Artouse, French Pyrenees. Potapova & Ponader (2004: 44, 45) note that Lange-Bertlot & Ruppel (198) considered Lac d'Artouste as the type locality but following Simonsen (1987) they consider the slide 397/18 (fron Gave d'Ossau) to be the type slide (type material BRM E 809, isotype slide ANSP GC 14440.
