This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Thalassiosira eccentrica (Ehrenberg) Cleve.

Fossil im Kreidemergeln van Oman, lebend bei Cuxhaven in der Nordsee, bei Tjorn im Cattegat und bei Vera Cruz im Weltmeere; (INA 1996) Notes: Ehrenberg's original localities: fossil from Oran, Africa; recent from Cuxhaven, North Sea; recent from Tjorn, Kattegat; epiphytic from Veracruz, Mexico. Typification: see Fryxell & Hasle (1972/1973).
