The type species (lectotype) of the genus Stauroneis is Stauroneis phoenicenteron (Nitzsch) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Aneumastus tusculus (Ehrenberg) D.G.Mann & A.J.Stickle.

Adjective (Latin), dotted, marked with dots, spots, minute glands, etc. (Stearn 1983).
