Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cryptomonas is Cryptomonas ovata Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Teleaulax acuta (Butcher) D.R.A.Hill.

Type locality: Isolated both from the River Crouch [Essex, England] and the Conway [Wales] tanks, but apparently not common.; (Butcher 1952: 188)
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), acute, pointed; i.e. narrowing gradually and making an angle of less than 90° (Stearn 1983).
