The type species (holotype) of the genus Gymnogongrus is Gymnogongrus griffithsiae (Turner) Martius.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ahnfeltiopsis smithii (W.R.Taylor) K.M.Dreckmann & I.Stout.
