The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodopeltis is Rhodopeltis australis (Harvey) Harvey.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stenopeltis gracilis (Yamada & Tanaka) Itono & Yoshizaki.

Type locality: Chiichi-jima (Titi-jima), Bohnin Islands (Ogasawara-jima), Japan; (Huisman et al: 259-260) Type: S. Sagawa; April 1933; SAP; 15322 (Yoshida 1998: 784) Notes: Holotype is spermatangial (Huisman, Abbot & Sherwood, 2004: 261). Syntype localities: Bonin Island, Japan; Kotosho, Taiwan (Coppejans & Millar 2000: 323).

Adjective (Latin), thin, slender (Stearn 1983).
