This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Xanthidium apiculatum M.Hirano.

Adjective (Latin), ending abruptly in a sharp point or apiculum (Stearn 1983).

According to INA this is an illegitimate name "not Arthrodesmus apiculatus (Corda) Corda, 1840"; the combination also proposed by Corda, 1840, Alman.
