The type species (holotype) of the genus Pterosiphonia is Pterosiphonia cloiophylla (C.Agardh) Falkenberg.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Xiphosiphonia ardreana (Maggs & Hommersand) Savoie & G.W.Saunders.
