Source of Synonymy
Barcyte, D. & Eliáš, M. (2023). Hydrocytium expands the phylogenetic, morphological, and genomic diversity of the poorly known green algal order Chaetopeltidales. American Journal of Botany 110(11, e16238): 1-20, 6 figs.
Type Information
Type locality: "Ad lapides in aquariis. (v. s.)" [No specific locality specified, later named as "Freiburg" by Braun 1850, 1855]
; (Kützing 1849: 892) Lectotype (icon; designated by Barcyte & Eliáš 2023): "illustration 10 of a single cell in plate 2A in Braun (1855)": (Barcyte & Eliáš, M. 2023) Notes: "Epitype (designated here to support the lectotype): Strain SAG 40.91 cryosample D14L41 permanently cryopreserved in a metabolically inactive state at the Culture Collection of Algae (SAG), Georg August University Göttingen, Germany. Figure 1 shows the morphology of the epitype." (Barcyte & Eliáš 2023). The selection of a lectotype may be superfluous as Kützing (1949: 891) indicated "v.s." that he had seen a specimen, which should be at L.
