This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Thermosynechococcus vestitus (Copeland) Komárek & Strunecky.

Epitype (designated by Komárek et al., 2020: 184): CBFS A-120-1, dried material of strain BP-1 (NIES 2133), deposite in herb. coll. Univ. of South Bohemia. Reference strain" T. vestitus BP-1.
