The type species (holotype) of the genus Halimeda is Halimeda tuna (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halimeda lacunalis f. lata (W.R.Taylor) L.W.Hillis.
