Epitype (designated by Darienko & Pröschold 2017): The strain SAG 2008 is permanently cryopreserved in a metabolically inactive state (cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen) in the SAG, University of Göttingen, Germany.

Participle (Latin), light green (Stearn 1983).
