The type species (holotype) of the genus Hystrichosphaeridium is Hystrichosphaeridium tubiferum (Ehrenberg) Deflandre.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lingulaulax polyedra (F.Stein) M.J.Head, K.N.Mertens & R.A.Fensome.
