Source of Synonymy
Starko, S., Boo, G, H., Martone, P.T. & Lindstrom, S.C. (2018). A molecular investigation of Saccharina sessilis from the Aleutian Islands reveals a species complex, necessitating the new combination Saccharina subsessilis. Algae. An International Journal of Algal Research 33(2): 157-166.

Type Information
Type locality: Bering Island; Sitka; (INA 1996) Lectotype: UPS; A-823620 (Starko et al. 2018: 162, fig. 4) Notes: Accordng to Setchell (1901: 122, 123), Areschoug does not give the type locality but inferred that it was either Bering Island or Sitka. Setchell's specimens came from the Island of Amaknak in Unalaska Bay. Lectotype designated by Starko & S.C. Lindstrom.
