Type Information
Type locality: Jongdal, Jeju Island, Korea; (Lee 2004: 256) Holotype (tetrasporophyte): 3rd August, 2000; Epiphytic on other algae and associated with other species of Martensia on rocks adjacent to sand in 6-8 m deep subtidal region; CNU (Herb. Dept. Biol., Cheju Natl. Univ.); LYP-1586 (Lee 2004: 256, fig. 2)

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Thalli are epiphytic, consisting of an initial blade and linear axes bearing flabellate bladelets, yellowish brown, and 6-25 cm high. Initial blades are membranous, attached to the substratum by a mass of rhizoids, flabellate to cuneiform, 4-5 cell layered, 100-150 µm thick. Linear axes are derived from the upper part of longitudinal lamellae, bearing bladelets laterally or terminally. The latgticework is organized with coarse meshes of longitudinal lamellae and cross-connecting strands, with a narrow leading margin. Leading margins of latticework produce the spine-like or flabellate projections at some intervals, are usually broken off, 150-300 µm broad. Tetrasporangia are borne on blades, linear axes, and longitudinal lamellae, covered with a single cell-layered envelope, usually in groups in a common envelope, globose, tetrahedrally divided, 100-150 µm in diameter. Male and female reproductive structures are unknown. Emend. S.-M. Lin, W.-C. Yang, Huisman, De Clerck & W.J. Lee (2013: 186).
