The type species (holotype) of the genus Polysiphonia is Polysiphonia urceolata (Lightfoot ex Dillwyn) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Symphyocladiella bartlingiana (Kützing) D.Bustamante, B.Y.Won & T.O.Cho.

Type locality: Peru; (INA 1996) Holotype: attached to Nitophyllum; L; 0056118 (Bustamante et al. 2019: 10, fig. 3) Notes: Peru ( on Schizoglossum); collected by Bartling (INA).
