This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gelidium divaricatum G.Martens.

Type Information
Type locality: Hongkong [Hong Kong]; (Martens 1868: 30) Notes: Lectotype: Hong Kong, Martens’ illustration, pl. VIII: fig. 4 (Martens 1866), collection date unknown; shown in Lin et al. (2018: fig. 2 D), the overall morphology of which strongly conforms with epitype material shown as Lin et al. (2018: figs 2 A, B). Epitype:—HAST#142346, Hair Pin Beach, Stanley, Hong Kong Island, 29 February 2008, collected by S.-M. Lin (Lin et al. 2018: fig. 2A).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), divaricate, spreading at a wide angle (Stearn 1983).
