Type Information
Syntype localities: Al-Iskandariyah (Alexandria); As-Suways (Suez), Egypt; (Silva & al. 1996: 469) Notes: De Jong et al. (1999) give the following data for the type: LD 1001. 5a, Alexandria. However, Perrone et al. (2006) consider LD to be an error; the herbarium is BM.

Distributional note
This species may have been introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 191) via an Egyptian "intermittant canal" precursor of the Suez Canal (Aleem 1948), which did not open until 1869. It was first found at Alendria in 1813 and 1826. It is now widespread in the eastern Mediterranean, although it has also been reported occasionally from the western basin. - (05 November 2015) - M.D. Guiry
