Type Information
Type locality: "S.W. Coast, from I. of Wight to Land's End [Hampshire to Cornwall, England]; (Stackhouse 1802: 77) Lectotype: CN; (Wynne 1984: 86) Notes: Specimen in CN selected as Lectotype is labelled "F. hypoglos in fruit . Pridmouth July" Probably Pridmouth Bay (also known as Polridmouth Cove?) near Fowey in Cornwall.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Membranous, rose-pink fronds, 20-200 (300) mm long, arising from a discoid base. Frond linear-lanceolate, with well-marked midrib and thin membranous margins, 1-5 (8) mm wide, repeatedly branched irregularly from midrib. Fronds with pointed apices, margins without microscopic veins, monostromatic except in midribs.

Habitat
On rock and epiphytic, lower intertidal and subtidal to 30 m, most abundant in Laminaria hyperborea forests; generally distributed in British Isles north to Shetland.
