This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asteromenia peltata (W.R.Taylor) Huisman & A.J.K.Millar.

Type locality: Isla Tortuga, Venezuela; (Taylor 1942: 113) Lectotype: 21 April 1939; dredged from 38-40m depth on a bottom of dead coral, sta. A44. (2006: 1590) regarding the identity of specimens on the lectotype sheet.
