Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Liagora is Liagora viscida (Forsskål) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.

Type Information
Syntype localities: "Siid-Australien: Cape Riche (Harvey); King Georges Land (Harvey); George Town (Harvey); Port Philipp [sic] Heads (Bracebridge Wilson - Mai 1891)." [Lectotype: King Georges Sound, Western Australia, Australia]; (Parnell & Huisman 2006: 112) Lectotype: W.H. Harvey; TCD; (Parnell & Huisman 2006: 113-115) Notes: This type locality was first described by Womersley (1965: 480) (Silva et al., 1996). Womersley (1994:98) notes that four localities were given by Zeh (1912: 270), and that the most suitable specimens from which to select a lectotype are those of Harvey from King George Sound, W, Australia. He notes that these were distributed by Harvey in Alg. Aust. Exsicc. 354. MEL 8578 is an isolectotype. The lectotype is illustrated by Parnell & Huisman (2006) as fig. 50B.

Eponomy
Named for William Henry Harvey (1811-1866), Irish Botanist, collector and traveller.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
A common species in shallow water on rough-water rock platforms and occasionally on Amphibolis in deeper water (Womersley 1994: 98). Epilithic or on Amphibolis stems, usually in shallow water (Huisman 2006: 65).
