Syntype localities: various in Cornwall, England; (Silva & al. 1996: 136) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) note that this is the type locality recorded for Fucus caespitosus Stackhouse nom illeg. which is the intended basionym for this species.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), horny, hard and close-textured but not brittle (Stearn 1983).
