Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gelidium corneum var. caespitosum (Turner) J.Agardh.
Type Information
Syntype localities: various in Cornwall, England; (Silva & al. 1996: 136) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) note that this is the type locality recorded for Fucus caespitosus Stackhouse nom illeg. which is the intended basionym for this species.
