The type species (lectotype) of the genus Galaxaura is Galaxaura rugosa (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Tricleocarpa cylindrica (J.Ellis & Solander) Huisman & Borowitzka.

Type locality: West Indies [Mr. Greg]; (Huisman & Borowitzka 1990: 164) (Huisman & Borowitzka 1990: 164) Notes: Huisman & Womersley (1994: 116) note that the type is lost; lectotypified by Ellis & Solander, 1786, pl. 22, fig.4 (see Papenfuss et al., 1982: 416).
