According to Papenfuss (1940a: 214-216), the name Polyphacum smithiae has been misapplied to this species by Barton (1893: 175); the name Ptilophora spissa has been misapplied to this species by Barton (1896: 197) and Delf & Michell (1921: 104) - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
