The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.

Type locality: New Ireland, Papua New Guinea; (Silva & al. 1996: 197) Lectotype: PC; TA33701 (De Smedt et al. 2001: 297) Notes: According to Silva et al. (1996) the epithet durvillaei is correctable to durvillei in accordance with Rec. 60C.1(c) enforced by Art. 60.11 of the ICBN (Greuter et al. 2000).
