The type species (lectotype) of the genus Amphiroa is Amphiroa tribulus (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Type Information
Type locality: Mariana Islands (Micronesia); (Harvey & al. 2013: 100) Holotype: CN Herb. Lamouroux; unnumbered (Yoshida 1998: 533) Notes: Dawson (1953: 136): isotype fragments are on sheet 55422 in HAHF. Harvey et al. (2013: 100, illustrate the holotype as fig. 16 A, B) and designate AD-A87681 from Western Australia, Ningaloo Marine Park, Sanctuary zone as epitype. Harvey et al. (2013: 103) add "(fragments removed from the holotype are also lodged in PC and fragments mentioned by Dawson (1953: p. 136) originally in HAHF are now at UC, UC-1839098 (W. J. Woelkerling and B. de Reviers, unpubl. data)."
