Taxonomic note
Furnari et al. (2003) note that “ Hapalidium zonale P. & H. Crouan. basionym of both Fosliella zonalis (P. & H. Crouan) Feldmann and Pneophyllum zonale (P. & H. Crouan) Y.M. Chamberlain is a taxon with uncertain taxonomic position. However, ... we consider Italian records of both F. zonalis and P. zonale as “sensu Chamberlain (1994)”. According to Chamberlain (1994: 133), F. zonalis sensu Chamberlain (as P. zonale) is synonym of P. caulerpae (Foslie) P.L. Jones & Woelkerling, a species that according to Penrose (1996: 267) is a synonym of P. coronotum.” - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
