Holotype fragment: PC, unnumbered, Montagne Herbarium (in the bound volume Types d'Algues recues de Monsieur Kützing de Nordhausen en Juin 1846) (Woelkerling 1998: 388).

Adjective (Latin), fragile (Stearn 1983).

This is a marine species.

Habitat
Occurs commonly on Acrocarpia spp., Laurencia spp., and on the segrass Amphibolis antarctica (Penrose in Womersley 1996: 271).
