Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Aglaothamnion hookeri (Dillwyn) Maggs & Hommersand.

Comments: Lyngbye and C. Agardh obviously exchanged material extensively; C. Agardh made use of exchange material as the basis for both Ceramium scopulorum and Callithamnion scopulorum (q.v.).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), rose-coloured (Stearn 1983).
