The type species (holotype) of the genus Cladophorella is Cladophorella calcicola F.E.Fritsch.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Wittrockiella salina V.J.Chapman.

Type locality: New Zealand: Orongo Bay; (INA 1996) Notes: Type not present in AK (Hoek et al., 1984: 41).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), growing in the sea (Stearn 1983).
