Type locality: "Neuholland" ["This recently discovered seaweed, departing so much from the usual in its form, has been brought from New Holland and has been supplied by Mr D. Habitat
Uppermost to deeper sublittoral in regions of slight to moderate water movement, mainly on rough-water coast (Edyvane & Womersley 1994: 293).
