Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Ulva is Ulva lactuca Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nemalion elminthoides (Velley) Batters.

Type locality: "Grows in abundance upon the rocks off the Beal, at the extremity of Portland [Dorset, England], at very low water. June. July. ... Major Velley."; (Withering 1792: 255) Lectotype: LIV; (Womersley 1994: 81) Notes: Batters (1902: 59) "e spec. auth. in Herb. Kew.", which could be considered a lectotypification so that the lectotype would be a specimen in BM-K.
