Taxonomic note
Dawson (1961: 236-237) concluded that H. nidulans is conspecific with H. pannosa, but Silva, Basson & Moe (1996: 303) retain it as a separate species. According to Yamagishi & Masuda (1997: 145), Chiang, Y.M. (1997: 173), Lewmanomont, K. (1997: 185) and South & Skelton (2003), this is a synonym of Hypnea pannosa J. Agardh. - (11 May 2006) - G.M.
