Taxonomic note
According to Gabrielson, Widdowson & Lindstrom (2004: 119, footnote) "Based on an examination of type material, Lindstrom & Scagel (1987) considered Farlowia crassa and F. compressa to be synonyms of F. mollis. Based on collections from central CA [California] we believe F. compressa to be a distinct species." - (18 August 2006) - G.M. Guiry
