Type Information
Type locality: Sète [Hérault, France]; (Silva & al. 1996: 437) Lectotype (designated by Maggs & Hommersand 1993): unlocalised, undated Grateloup specimen; LD; 43847 (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 275) Notes: "Dasya ocellata is based on Ceramium ocellatum, a name published by Grateloup (1806) on the basis of specimens collected in Montpellier (Mediterranean coast of France),..." (Peña-Matrin & al. 2008: 74), but INA and Silva & al. (1996: 437) indicated "Sète". I have not seen the original publication.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), marked with two-coloured spots, having the centre of one colour surrounded by a broad ring of another (Stearn 1983).
