According to Gabrielson, Widdowson & Lindstrom (2006: 143, footnote), the "...relationship between Opuntiella california and O. ornata needs to be studied. The lack of information about the latter species precluded writing a meaningful key to the two species." - (24 August 2006) - G.M. Guiry
