Huisman & Kurihara (2006: 19) note: occurs from Augusta, W.A., around northern Australia to Lake Macquarie, N.S.W.; also widespread in warmer waters; epilithic, occasionally with its base lightly covered with sand; collected from depths ranging from the intertidal to 30 m, usually in areas of moderate water movement.
