Taxonomic notes
Dictyota ciliolata ? (see discussion in Tronholm et al. 2013). "Future research, using less conservative markers. could yet indicate that both Dictyota menstrualis and D. plectens are ...distinct lineages warranting species status but if that should prove the case, it is likely that D. ciliolata proper will have to be subdivided into a large number of other cryptic and pseudocryptic species." De Clerck (2003) notes that Schnetter et al. (1987:193-197) considered D. menstrualis a separate species rather than a variety of D. dichotoma, based on chromosome counts and interbreeding experiments. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
