Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Padina is Padina pavonica (Linnaeus) Thivy.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Padina boryana Thivy.
Type Information
Type locality: 'Île aux Tonneliers, pres de l'Île de France' [Mauritius]; (Womersley 1958: 150) Holotype: PC; (Womersley 1958: 150) Notes: Type was collected by the Coquille Expedition between 1822 and 1825. According to Womersley (1958: 15), the three specimens figured by Bory are mounted on a single sheet in the Bory Herbarium.
