Description: Plants heterotrichous, consisting of uniseriate filaments. Prostrate filaments short and branched, each cell with nucleus, parietal chloroplast and pyrenoid. Erect system of simple, hair-like filaments, ca. 5 to 8 cells in length, cells cylindrical and lack pyrenoids. Sporangia reported to become detached before producing spores. Details of zoosporogenesis and sexuality unknown. Pseudochaete epiphytic on other aquatic plants in Europe, Asia and Sri Lanka. Genus incompletely described and hence of questionable validity. The type species might be a developmental stage of Stigeoclonium.
