Taxonomic note
John (2011: 545) concluded "It has been decided to regard this little-known genus as merely a developmental stage of Stigeoclonium. Smith (1933) considered Pseudochaete to be a dward species of Stigeoclonium and Tiffany (1937b) transferred it to Stigeoclonium as S. gracile (West & G.S. West) Tiffany." However, the type species is not Pseudochaete gracilis as stated by John, but is Pseudochaete crassiseta (West & G.S. West) West & G.S. West, originally described from Ceylon (Sri Lanka), which requires further invesigation. - (09 February 2015) - M.D. Guiry
