Verbruggen et al. (2007: 244, 248) note that specimens identified as C. geppiorum were resolved into five distinct ESUs (evolutionary significant units). - (03 February 2012) - G.M. Guiry
According to Silva et al. (1996: 856) the following names have been misapplied to this species: Codium tomentosum by Jadin (1935: 157 in part) and Codium vermilara by Grunow (1867: 35). South & Skelton (2003) cite, with doubt, Codium bulbopilum Setchell 1924 as a synonym of Codium geppiorum O. Schmidt 1923. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
