General Environment
This is a marine species.
Habitat
Most common in the mid eulittoral, on open rock in sheltered and moderately rough-water situations, and in shade on rough-water coasts; also found on Avicennia pneumatophores and lower trunks; commonly grows on mussels or on limpets, and may occur in shaded upper eulittoral situations where wave-wash is slight; on horizontal rock on coasts of moderate wave action may cover extensive areas of the lower eulittoral (Guiry & Womersley 1993: 270).
