Nomenclatural note
"The taxonomic status of Codium taylorii is somewhat questionable. The taxon C. taylori is preceded by Codium abreviatum C. Agardh (in Mazé and Schramm 1877). Silva (1960: 510) in describing Codium taylorii listed C. abreviatum as %u201Cnomen subnudum%u201D and stated that he did not consider their reference to color as constituting valid description of this species (Silva 1960: 513)." (Ballantine & al. 2023: 38). - (08 March 2023) - M.D. Guiry
Taxonomic note
Misidentified on the coast of Israel as Codium dichotomum, this is the most common species in this area. It may be an adventive species. - (20 July 2015) - M.D. Guiry
Distributional note
This species has been introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 273) being first found at Israel prior to 1955, probably by shipping and/or aquaculture activities. It is now widely distributed on the Levantine and N African coasts, but is infrequent. - (06 November 2015) - M.D. Guiry
Habitat note
In rock pools at lower mid-littoral levels on moderately wave-exposed shores and also at shallow sublittoral levels (5 m depth) (Tittley et al. 2009). - (25 March 2010) - G.M. Guiry
