Distributional note
"...only R. okamurae was recorded from the Mediterranean Sea in the Étang de Thau (France). Since only sterile thalli were found, its identification was substantiated by a comparison of genetic sequence of psbA between Mediterranean and NE Pacific specimens (Verlaque & al. 2009)." (Cormaci et al. 2012: 67). It was first found in first found in the Etang de Thau (France) around 2002 (Verlaque & al. 2015: 81). It has since spread to an area around Marseille where is has become invasive and where it is spreading rapidly (2021)( see Ruitton & al. 2021). - (27 August 2015) - M.D. Guiry
