The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sarcodia dentata (Suhr) R.E.Norris ex M.J.Wynne.

Adjective (Latin), toothed, usually with sharp teeth pointing outwards (Stearn 1983).
