Adjective A (Latin), wooly, somewhat wooly, or fluffy.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Rather rigid, tufted, uniseriate, ecoritcate, bright red filaments, to 200 mm long. Repeatedly ± dichotomously branched, with frequent short branchlets, axils very acute. Articulations cylindrical, 5-6 times as long as broad in lower parts, shorter distally.

Habitat
On rocks in shady intertidal pools, widely distributed, common.

Nomenclatural note
"Griffithsia flosculosa (J. Ellis) Ruprecht. This species was widely reported from the Mediterranean Sea as G. flosculosa (J. Ellis) Batters, a combination proposed by Batters (1902: 84) which is, however, a later isonym, with no nomenclatural status, according to Art. 6.3 Note 2 of ICN (Turland et al., 2018), of the combination proposed by Ruprecht (1850: 146)." and "G. setacea (Hudson) C. Agardh. This species was recorded from Liguria (Italy) first by Dufour [1865: 47, as G. setacea Ellis (sic!)] and laterby Ardissone [1874: 64, as G. setacea (Ellis) C. Agardh] and Ardissone & Strafforello (1877: 174, as G. setacea C, Agardh). Ardissone (1883: 86) reported it from different Mediterranean localities, listing among synonyms also Conferva flosculosa %u201Cflocculosa%u201D Ellis (basionym of H. flosculosus)."
