Distributional note
By DNA sequence the confirmed range of Bossiella frondescens is Bering Island (Commander Islands, Russia) east to the Gulf of Alaska and south to Marin County, California, USA. We have not confirmed its presence in far east Russia (Perestenko 1994) or in Japan (Okamura 1936), but it may be there. Because other Northeast Pacific marine macroalgal species have been confirmed from Chile using DNA sequencing, the records in Ramírez & Santilices (1991) need to be confirmed. The reports of this species from southern California (Stewart 1991) and from Turkey (Taskin et al. 2008) very likely are incorrect, as are the reports from the Gulf of California (Dawson 1953), the Philippines (Silva et al. 1987, Ang et al. 2014) and the Federated States of Micronesia (Tsuda 2006), all based on the incorrect synonymy of Corallina pinnatifolia var. digitata under B. frondescens. - (29 November 2015)
